While en route from Da Nang to Hai Phong, the cargo vessel VINAFCO 26 discovered three people drifting at sea under dangerous conditions. Demonstrating professionalism, responsibility, and exceptional emergency response capabilities, the vessel’s captain and crew acted swiftly to successfully rescue all three individuals.
According to Captain Nguyen Duy Hung, Master of VINAFCO 26 (Call Sign: 3WMC9, IMO No. 9138367), the vessel was sailing from Da Nang to Hai Phong and approaching the pilot boarding area when the incident occurred. At approximately 17:45 on June 15, 2026, the crew spotted three individuals drifting at sea at coordinates 20°34'99"N, 109°54'15"E, approximately six nautical miles from the pilot boarding station.

At sea, individuals stranded in open waters face severe risks including exhaustion, disorientation, and potential loss of life. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Captain Nguyen Duy Hung and the crew of VINAFCO 26 immediately assessed the circumstances, maneuvered the vessel toward the distressed individuals, and initiated rescue operations with the highest priority placed on human life and safety.
Thanks to comprehensive training in maritime emergency response procedures, survivor assistance techniques, first aid, and the operation of lifesaving equipment, the crew handled the situation calmly, professionally, and effectively. Supported by the vessel’s modern safety and rescue equipment, the operation was carried out promptly while ensuring the safety of both the survivors and the rescue team.

By 18:30 on the same day, all three individuals had been safely brought aboard the vessel. The rescued persons were crew members of the fishing vessel HP00133TS, including: Mr. Nguyen Van Duc (born 1985), Captain; Mr. Phung Van Khen (born 1956); Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien (born 1978). All three are residents of Tien Hai Commune, Hai Phong City, Vietnam.
Following the rescue, VINAFCO 26 conducted welfare checks, collected relevant information from the survivors, and confirmed that no additional individuals remained in the water. The vessel then resumed its scheduled voyage toward the pilot boarding area.
